Dr. Nathan Punwani

Secretary & Treasurer, USIRC

Dr. Nathan Punwani, MD, MPH, is proud to serve as Treasurer and as one of the founding board of directors of the United States-India Relationship Council (USIRC). He previously worked in the offices of United States Senator Kent Conrad, Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, and Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr, who currently sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Nathan later went on to graduate from medical school at Drexel University. He also obtained a Masters of Public Health from Harvard University. He currently works as a malignant hematologist and bone marrow transplant physician.

Nathan is effusively passionate about his Hindu faith and Indian heritage. When he worked in the U.S. Senate, he steadfastly advocated for the US-India nuclear deal. In fact, he fondly remembers the experience as the first time he personally lobbied a sitting member of Congress over an issue.

Nathan is frequently published in The Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal for his unabashed pro-India viewpoints. As someone whose paternal family fled Sindh right before the Partition and today he has his maternal family living in Jammu & Kashmir, Nathan instinctively understands the importance of a robust US-India relationship.
